Well, being home in Texas for the holidays is absolutely wonderful! After being gone for a year, the tears spilled as I hugged my mom in the airport, and soon after when I had a mouthful of carne guisada from Taco Cabana. See, Texas is the home of Tex-Mex... and better yet, I live in San Antonio, where the Mexican culture is alive and tasty.
Almost more wonderful than the Tex-Mex food of Texas is the grocery store of Texas.

HEB is one of my favorite places in the world, and my family just happens to live nearby the largest HEB. Groceries of all sorts and sizes are found in this incredible store, and it supplies us with all the spices and meats needed to make the comida sobrosa (tasty food)!

I haven't been cooking much since Christmas, but before the big day, there were cookies of all sorts being manufactured in my mom's beautiful kitchen. Chocolate chip, gingerbread, sugarcookies! Yum! All with the help of my little elf!

Christmas dinner was also provided to the family by yours truly. We had a delicious turkey fried by Randy, that had been injected with butter and Caribbean Jerk Sauce from Buffalo Wild Wings. I, with a little help from my mother, prepared the green bean casserole (my favorite!!) and mashed potatoes.
One of my favorite parts of Christmas is breakfast! My mom

always makes all kinds of goodies! This year we had cranberry orange scones, cinnamon roles, topovers (from scratch!), and abel skievers!
If you've never had abel skievers, you're missing out! If you're in the dorms and reading this, as soon as I get my last box from home, you'll get to try some! Basically, it's jelly filled pancake balls sprinkled with powdered sugar. They are so delicious and a childhood memory. Try them now!
